Grade 3 Teacher, Primary Years Programme

Position Description:

We invite applications for the temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) position of a Grade 3 Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate must be available to attend Southridge Faculty Orientation Days, starting on August 26, 2022.


  • Develop positive relationships with students that instil a sense of belonging and connection
  • Nurture students’ cognitive, social, and emotional growth while supporting their development of agency and self-efficacy
  • Use student-centred, inquiry-based approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment that align with the philosophy and framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Grade 3 BC Ministry of Education Curriculum for core subject areas
  • Guide student behaviour that aligns with Southridge’s mission, vision, and values
  • Use standards-based reporting to communicate each student’s development of essential skills and subject-specific learning standards, with a focus on highlighting individual strengths and areas of improvement/next steps
  • Use technology to enhance learning and teaching
  • Maintain positive and collegial relationships with colleagues through collaborative planning, professional learning, and reflection
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents as partners in their child’s learning journey
  • Participate in the Junior School co-curricular programme (e.g. coaching athletic teams, sponsoring clubs) (2/year)
  • Engage in strategically aligned professional growth, learning, and development that positively impact student success
  • Attend and participate in core school functions and special events
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Southridge Faculty Handbook


  • A Bachelor of Education, with a focus on Elementary Education at the primary level
  • Hold a valid BC teaching certificate
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level in an independent school environment
  • International Baccalaureate PYP Professional Development and/or experience in an IB PYP is an asset
  • A demonstrated passion for and commitment to student-centred, inquiry-based, concept-driven teaching and learning
  • A proven understanding of children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs, particularly at the primary level
  • Experience with technology as a means of enhancing teaching and learning (e.g. Google Education Suite)
  • Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues in shared planning and decision making that aligns with school-based strategic goals and initiatives
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills that enable strong connections with colleagues, students, and families
  • First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain a First Aid Certificate)
  • A willingness to embrace the Southridge mission, vision, and values
