In follow-up to last week's post, join us in welcoming and get to know some of our new Junior School faculty.
Josephine Carter
Junior School Teacher On Call
Josephine is an alumnus of Southridge (Class of 2017) and is eager to bring her skills, experience, and unwavering passion for education back to Southridge.
She completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology and Psychology at the University of Alberta. Following that, she pursued a Bachelor of Education with a focus on elementary education. Looking ahead, she is excited to continue her academic journey by pursuing a Master of Education in the next year.
She's thrilled at the opportunity to join Southridge and contribute to the school community that has been so meaningful to her. As a former student, she deeply appreciates the supportive environment and inspiring teachers that shaped her experience here. Josephine often reflects on her time at Southridge with fondness and is excited to create new memories as a teacher. She is eager to contribute back by supporting students in their learning and growth, and by being an active part of their own educational journey. She is excited to start her career at such a remarkable school with the opportunity to learn from a diverse team of educators across various grades.
When she's not in the classroom, you can find her outdoors, always on the lookout for new adventures. She's passionate about exploring the world and is on a personal mission to visit every continent—so far, she's made it to 3 out of 7. On weekends, she enjoys visiting farmers' markets, going hiking, engaging in various sports, and spending time with her friends and family. She's excited to be back home again, and will be taking full advantage of the stunning natural beauty that British Columbia has to offer.
Tara Gauthier
Grade 4 Teacher
Tara switched career paths from being a baker to pursuing her passion for teaching. She completed her BA at KPU in Geography and Criminology and did her BEd at UBC in the IB-PYP cohort. She worked as an Early Childhood Educator Assistant at the Cloverdale Discovery Center and Sunrise Discovery Centre.
She loves sparking curiosity and creativity in students, watching their excitement when they have their 'ah-ha moment' when they grasp something new and teaching them with a bit of humor and a lot of heart. Sh's excited to join a community where collaboration and creativity thrive, and she can't wait to bring her unique mix of experiences and energy to the team.
At home, her two giant labs keep her on her toes. She's a coffee-addicted travel enthusiast who loves trying new things, and spending time with family and friends, baking, cooking, reading, listening to music, and playing board games.
Eun Kim
Grade 2 Teacher
Eun completed her Bachelor of Arts in speech science at UBC before working in Korea as an English teacher. She came back to Canada and earned a Bachelor of Education in Elementary and Middle Years IB-PYP. She may look familiar because she completed her practicum at Southridge in our Grade 5 classroom last year. During her time at our school, she actively participated in classroom activities and extracurricular duties such as basketball.
Eun is passionate about educating the whole child and is looking forward to building connections with students and creating memorable experiences with them.
In her personal time, she enjoys going down to the beach with her little dog and traveling. Eun also like to try out new things - food, adventures, sports, as well as hand-on projects like crocheting, woodworking, and baking.
