Meet this year's School Captains!
Eva Lofing and Anokh Gill

This year's School Captains are Eva Lofing and Anokh Gill. Along with formally representing the school at events, they also serve as role models for students and share students' ideas with the school's leaders. We asked both Eva and Anokh to answer a few questions so we could get to know them better.

Eva Lofing

Why did you want to become a School Captain?
I wanted to make a bigger impact at the school, test my leadership abilities, and make my last year at Southridge more memorable.

What are you hoping to accomplish in this role?
This year, I am hoping to make the school more positive and welcoming, especially for the younger students.

What do you see as the strengths of Southridge?
The two biggest strengths of Southridge to me are all of the opportunities to extend your learning such as the designated tutorial times in the morning as well as tutorials at lunch or after school. I find it really helpful that teachers not only teach me in class, but also outside of class if I need help with a topic or subject. I think that the other biggest strength is the competitive nature at the school, not necessarily to compete with other students, but to improve your own results to become more successful.

What would you like to change at Southridge?
I’m not sure!

What’s been the highlight of your time here at Southridge so far?
The highlight of my time at Southridge has been all of the connections I have made with both students and teachers.

What are your plans and ambitions for the future?
Next year, I am planning on going to university to get a bachelor of commerce. In the long run, I want to get a law degree and become a business lawyer.

Anokh Gill

Why did you want to become a School Captain?
I wanted to be someone that people could approach if they have a problem or just if they want to talk to someone (more so than I was before).

What are you hoping to accomplish in this role?
I will spare the details but in general, Eva and I want to expand on a lot of aspects the school is already strong with like inclusivity and the safety of students. We also hope to become people that all students feel they can approach whether they need help or just need to talk to someone.

What do you see as the strengths of Southridge?
I see the four pillars as a huge strength for Southridge. This school does not only put emphasis on just academics or one of the other pillars but equally values each one, and because of this everyone can find at least one thing for them to be passionate about at school. Another strength of the school is its community. It is rare to see a community as tight-knit as the one at Southridge where people come together to put on amazing events such as Country Fair and the House Party.

What would you like to change at Southridge?
Myself, Eva, and the board of stewards will be discussing through the year if anything needs to be changed at the
school. We will also be listening to any improvements the other students at the school believe are necessary or important.

What’s been the highlight of your time here at Southridge so far?
One of my many highlights from my time here at Southridge is the community. The Southridge community is definitely something special - you will rarely be able to find a community quite like ours at any school. All the various events and activities that are done as a community have given me memories I will never forget.

What are your plans and ambitions for the future?
I hope to study Kinesiology at UBC as an undergraduate degree and then study medicine as my graduate degree. After this, I hope to become a surgeon at a hospital.
