This year, we’re pleased to welcome back Muriel Wells as an Internal Coverage Teacher in the Junior School. While Ms. Wells is not new to Southridge (she has been part of our community as a Teacher on Call and has covered temporary assignments since 2024), this year marks an exciting opportunity for her to become even more involved in the life of our school as a temporary full-time Internal Coverage Teacher.
Ms. Wells began her teaching career in public and independent secondary schools, where she taught science and mathematics. After taking time away from teaching to raise her three children, she returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant. Before long, she realized how much she missed teaching and transitioned back to the classroom, this time working with elementary-aged students.
Since joining Southridge in September 2024, Ms. Wells has enjoyed getting to know our students, staff, and families. She has also come to appreciate what makes Southridge special, including the quality of education and emphasis on character development. As she steps into her new role, Ms. Wells is looking forward to continuing to learn new teaching strategies and becoming more involved in co-curricular activities across the Junior School.
Life beyond the classroom
For the past 20 years, Ms. Wells has been a dedicated Girl Guides volunteer. As an Embers leader, she works with children ages seven to nine and especially enjoys helping them build new skills and getting outdoors for camping adventures. When she’s not at school or volunteering with Girl Guides, Ms. Wells enjoys gardening, jogging, hiking, camping, and sewing. She also loves spending time with her dog and guinea pigs. Ms. Wells lives with her husband, Tom, and their three adult children, Jake, Grace and Laura.
We’re excited to welcome back Ms. Wells to our Junior School.
