The Season of Giving
Erin McDonald

The generosity I see at Southridge is something extraordinary. From volunteering as class parents to supporting fundraising and school events, the community always comes together in the most meaningful ways. But what some might not be aware of, is that this doesn't stop once our students graduate – our alumni are continuing the tradition of contribution, especially around the holidays.

Our alumni community has been giving back since we launched our #GivingTuesday campaign on November 30th. Through the generosity of Rick (Class of 2004) and Azra Mann, we were able to provide alumni with the opportunity to double their impact, as all gifts would be matched (up to $20,000), and our alumni answered the call. Gifts to the newly established Alumni Financial Assistance Fund are still coming in. We're so grateful to be able to support future students who might not be able to attend our school without financial support through this fund.

Our alumni have also been busy this season, acting as Southridge elves, helping to contribute to the Holiday Hampers. The Alumni Association agreed to take on two hampers this season, and their involvement was inspiring. It was not only because of what they could help purchase for our families, but also because of the sentimental meaning behind "why" they chose to support it. Both Alka Batta (Class of 2014) and Bridget Collings (Class of 2009) were the leads for the hamper drive in Grade 11. Their experience motivated them to help support the alumni initiative this year, and they both enjoyed reminiscing about those special times.

At Southridge, "every spirit soaring" is made possible by the contributions and the selflessness of everyone. Southridge has always asked its students to consider how their actions make a difference in the lives of others, and I am so pleased to see our alumni continuing this tradition well beyond the years they spent at our school.

Thank you for making this holiday season bright to all our alumni who have supported our giving initiatives!
