The Legacy of the Country Fair
Christiane Hodson

Today would have marked the 25th Annual Southridge School Country Fair. Every year since the school opened, this event has been a remarkable undertaking requiring impressive amounts of teamwork, commitment, and leadership from our parent volunteers, our students, staff, and faculty. Since our first fair in 1996, we have welcomed tens of thousands of loyal and treasured guests from our greater community; many lined up at the crack of dawn to enjoy a day at the fair.

There is nothing more powerful than a community that comes together for a common purpose. For 24 years, this has been the case with our beloved Country Fair. 2020, however, has posed a different challenge for us and we must come together for a different purpose entirely. Fortunately, the legacy of the Country Fair – a legacy of commitment, leadership, and teamwork – will get us through the weeks and months ahead.

Although there is nothing I would rather be doing today than working hand-in-hand with Southridge parents and staff and celebrating our school’s 25th anniversary with our greater community, I know we are all where we should be today – at home.

Thank you to every member of the Southridge community – past and present – for an amazing 24 Country Fairs – an event that has always been more than just an event for it has brought us together without fail on the first Saturday in May every single year.

And, most importantly, thank you to our guests – from our loyal bargain hunters to the local families who spend a magical day on our front field – thank you for your patronage and for taking the time to get to know what the Southridge community is truly all about.
