Working together to make a difference! Southridge offering Country Fair Community Grants
Christiane Hodson

The Country Fair is held every year on the first Saturday in May and has become a well-known event in the local community and our biggest “friend-raiser”. When Gloria the Gorilla settles in on top of the Junior School roof, the local community knows that the Country Fair is quickly approaching!

To make this event run, hundreds of parent and student volunteers come together. They work hard to prepare for the 5,000-8,000 people who join us from all around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley for this special community event. The Country Fair includes many different elements, including the very popular “recycled treasures” garage sale, bake sale, indoor and outdoor games, farmer’s market, and entertainment by Southridge students. Save the date for this year’s Country Fair, which is being held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020.

As a school that emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community and making a difference in the world, we wanted to do something special in celebration of 25 years of Southridge this year. Over the past 25 years, the community has continued to support us, so as a “thank you” we are going to give the net proceeds from the 25th Annual Country Fair back to the community. We are doing this through a one-time Community Grant Program, through which we will be giving up to $40,000 to local charities. Applications are being accepted until December 6th, 2019 at 4:00pm.

Registered charities located in Surrey, White Rock, Langley, and Delta are all eligible to apply to be a recipient of one of our grants, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Preference will be given to organizations that focus on youth or education, or will use the money to fund a specific project.

A selection committee will meet in early 2020 to review all the applications. Selected charities will be notified by February 28th, 2020 with a public announcement to follow in March 2020. The charities selected to receive grants can expect to receive their funds by mid-July 2020.

If you are reading this, and a deserving charity comes to mind, we would appreciate if you could share this opportunity with them!
