This service is offered as an extended day option to participants of our weekly camps. Children will have the choice of playing games in the gym, or watching a movie to relax after a busy day. Parents are required to pick up their child by 5:00 pm. This is a per week commitment. 


CAMPING ADVENTURE

Does your child love everything about camping and nature? Then, pack your gear and get ready to camp…in the classroom! Learn all about the great outdoors including our insect and animal friends in a week of education and fun. Activities will focus on social skills, team work, and cooperative play. Campers will enjoy “camp fire” stories, playing outside games, embarking on a nature scavenger hunt, making s'mores, and learning new facts about the wilderness. Of course, no camping adventure would be complete without some wet, wild, and wacky water play outside.

exploring the arts

Exploring the world of the arts can help your child develop communication, imagination, collaboration, and build self-confidence. Your child will be introduced to the art of pretending through fun theatre games and techniques that draw on improvising, mime, movement, and team work. Young campers will also discover, experiment with, and express their artistic talents in new ways through music, stories, and visual arts.  This camp is all about fun, making new friends, and developing important skills that can be applied at school and every day life. 


LITTLE SCIENTISTS

Grab hold of your natural curiosity, bring along your enthusiasm, and get set to explore your every day world! We will conduct experiments in a variety of different and exciting scientific fields such as nature (biology), mixtures (chemistry), and movement and force (physics). Campers are invited to participate in fun and engaging hands-on activities, ask lots of questions, and share their own ideas and special perspectives about how the world works. This is a great opportunity for young campers to learn about different scientific concepts by watching what is happening, guessing what might happen next, experimenting with different ideas, and making new discoveries! For parents, it's a wonderful opportunity to help their children learn to think more critically and gain confidence in their own ability to solve problems.

FUNTIME EXPLORERS

Looking for an active, hands-on, and safe environment for your child this summer? This camp will have your child learning and not even know it! Skill-enhancing activities include: music, creative movement, role-playing, dress-up, co-operative games, and science experiments. Campers will enjoy learning about the interesting chemistry that is actually needed to create ice cream, while being able to eat their delicious creation afterwards! They will also enjoy slip-n-sliding, an outdoor scavenger hunt, creating play dough and “worms in dirt” both from scratch!

PIRATES’ HIDDEN TREASURE

Ahoy, mateys! Join our crew as we set sail for a week full of pirate activities! Campers will explore the seven seas in search of hidden treasure. They will create their own pirate costumes, along with compasses to navigate the waters. Campers will also learn to use pirate skills to follow a map to the buried treasure, and make your their own pirate ships to carry that treasure. And last but not least, campers will a build a Lego pirate ship that they will get to take home at the end of the week!

ART EXTRAVAGANZA

Do you love creating art? Would you like to learn more about art? Or does your fridge look like an art gallery wall? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then look no further - this is the camp for you! Campers will develop their skills and imagination while creating a variety of art projects. Young artists will draw, paint, print, and sculpt their way through the week using materials such as clay, ink, tempera paint, and pastels (among other things). Bring a smile, energy, and your creativity as well as an apron or old t-shirt to keep your clothes clean.

DISCOVER PLANET EARTH

Discover the incredible way our world works as an alien guest scientist from Planet X. On a one-week journey to Earth, campers will discover the amazing features through exciting hands-on experiments. They will create mini-volcanoes, grow crystals, build a lava lamp and watch the battle between oil and water, and make “oobleck” – a cool substance that has both solid and liquid properties! To round off the alien journey, campers will collect stamps in their Alien Passports.

In this camp, we will put our basic cooking skills to work to make all kinds of yummy, kid-friendly food. We will combine food preparation with lots of activities to help learn about food, nutrition, and safety in the kitchen. Campers will make chef’s hats, decorate aprons, learn how to set a table, and play games to identify healthy food vs. non-healthy food. Each day, they will make a recipe that does not require a full-size oven – anything from a lunch-time sandwich, to snack-time treat. All food items used are peanut and nut free. We are unable to accommodate other allergy or dietary needs. NOTE: Although we will be making some food, campers are still required to bring a proper lunch and snacks.

GIRLS ONLY SPORTS, GAMES, AND FUN

This girls only camp focuses on confidence-building, physical activity, healthy lifestyle choices, teamwork, and of course, fun! Campers will participate in a wide variety of different sports, cooperative games, and group activities in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. Activities will include yoga, meditation, dodge ball, soccer, Frisbee, basketball, California kick ball, capture the flag, mini Olympics, as well as other games and activities. In between the action, campers will learn about healthy lifestyle choices, teamwork, and self-confidence. Please pack running shoes, water, a healthy snack, and sufficient lunch to fuel the camper's body for the day.

Padawans, join us for a week of adventures into a faraway galaxy where you will learn what it takes to truly become a Jedi Knight. You and your fellow padawans will work together to complete challenges that will help you master the skills needed to obtain your Jedi Knighthood. Activities include creating your own light sabers, making character masks, and working through challenges such as Star Wars trivia and Jedi trials. After a week of Jedi training, you will engage in a safe and fun light saber dueling contest where it will be determined if the force IS with you!

BASKETBALL and MIND GAMES

In the morning, players head to the courts! This action-packed camp is for aspiring athletes who want to learn more about the great game of basketball. Campers will learn the physical, technical, tactical, and mental aspects of the game and build confidence on and off the court through improving skills, expanding players’ understanding of the game, creating positive relationships with fellow players, and setting attainable goals. In the afternoon, players will work on interactive math projects that combine basic math concepts, higher order thinking skills, and hands-on fun. Come travel to the Land of Enchantment featuring Harry Potter. We will take you on an enchanting journey into a land of wizards, magic, and fun! Experience a house-sorting ceremony followed by fun-filled days where campers will learn magic spells using everyday items, and enter a magical dueling tournament. Campers will make a mandrake, create their own wands and capes, create enchanting pieces of art, learn how to play Quidditch, and whip up some mysterious concoctions in the kitchen. Campers will use their imaginations to experience a week visiting Hogwarts - where anything can happen!

This camp provides kids with the opportunity to explore their creative side and try out DIY-ing in a fun environment. Campers will use a range of materials (including natural and recycled materials) and try out different techniques to make and create unique 'do it yourself' projects. Projects will include cedar bark baskets, assembling a bird house, designing a garden plaque, creating personalized tie-dye t-shirts, making sparkle mason jars, and creating an object out of soapstone. By the end of the week, campers will take home some new skills, cool keepsakes, and great memories. All skill levels welcome.

SURVIVOR SOUTHRIDGE

Do you have what it takes to outwit, outlast, and outplay? Find out at Survivor Southridge during this exhilarating week where campers will bond with fellow tribe members while learning basic survival skills through participating in various daily reward challenges like building a perfect campfire, a tent assembly race, and an outdoor scavenger hunt. Campers will assemble their own survival kits, design a tribal bandana, learn vital survival skills, and create friendships to last a lifetime. On Friday, campers will hike through Campbell Valley Park and use skills they have learned throughout the week. Come learn and play in the best classroom of all…the outdoors! MINECRAFT ADVENTURE

Come and be an adventurer with us as we bring the virtual world of Minecraft to life! We will explore the video game, get tips and tricks, as well as learn about cooperation, online etiquette, and digital responsibility. Together, we will embark on virtual building and team treasure hunting challenges, and recreate the Minecraft world through creative and physical activities. We will “Minecraft Ourselves,” make Minecraft avatar helmets, build with Minecraft Papercraft, and more! Adventurers will also engage in physical activity by playing Minecraft themed sports and games. NOTE: Campers will be responsible for bringing a device with a version of Minecraft on it each day (preferably the Pocket Edition, available on iOS, Android and Windows devices).

Come express yourself and dive into the wonderful world of visual art! Campers will draw, collage, paint, and sculpt their way through the week using materials such as clay, ink, tempera paint, and pastels. Young artist’s will be encouraged to explore their potential, embrace creativity, and develop their skills as they explore different art mediums and build a personal portfolio. Structured indoor studio time will be balanced with outdoor practice, as well as free time. Come prepared to get messy in this hands-on art camp! All supplies are included.

ADVANCED HANDS-ON ROBOTICS: MINDSTORMS EV3

In the Robotics EV3 advanced camp, participants will take their knowledge of robot building and programming to the next level! We will meet a variety of daily challenges by designing and programming our robots and developing our skills using Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots and programming software. Campers will be introduced to a variety of advanced robot designs, programming, and opportunities to improve their skills. This advanced camp will allow participants to use their existing knowledge to explore more complicated robot behaviour and programming techniques. Previous experience with the Lego Mindstorms EV3 program and an understanding of how motors, gears, wheels, and axles work is essential to enjoy this camp. Those who previously attended the first level Hands-on Robotics camp are also invited to deepen their robotics knowledge and programming skills. This camp includes use of a Southridge Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit. 


OUTDOOR PHYSICAL FUN

Join us for a week of outdoor physical fun exploring nature’s peaks, valleys, and waterways! Campers will get to connect with nature while improving their physical fitness through hiking, trail walking, and swimming. Destinations include various hikes and lakes around the Lower Mainland, such as: Teapot Hill and Cultus Lake. NOTE: Some of the physical activities are considered intermediate level – campers should have a good base level of fitness in order to participate in this camp. YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Campers will put on their scientist hats for a week of experiments, dissections, investigations, and competitions as we learn about physics, chemistry, and biology in a fun setting. This camp incorporates science magic, microscopes, demonstrations, and observations as we discover why things work the way they do and what makes science so interesting. Each day campers will focus on a different science and at the end of the week, we will get out our trusty microscopes to discover the many micro-organisms that can be found in pond water. On Thursday, we will head off to the UBC Botanical Garden to experience first-hand their food and medicinal gardens as well as their tree top canopy.
